Support The Fish-A-Thon For A Cure

431554_343711895671324_1062645571_nDarrell and I will once again be participating in the Fish-A-Thon For A Cure, being held this Saturday at Deer Creek Conservation Area. This will be our second year at the event, and after last year, we couldn’t wait to return. The event is held in a beautiful setting, the fishing was pretty good once we figured it out, and the people were amazing. Honestly, you couldn’t ask for a nicer group of people than those organizing this event.

Of course, the main reason we like to participate is that it’s for a wonderful cause – raising funds for cancer research. Both Darrell and I have had family members affected by cancer, and this event is a somber reminder of the fight they have had. But it’s also a ray of hope, a way of helping out. After last year’s event, I vowed that I would work hard and increase the amount of pledges I found. Unfortunately, I said that before I started school and found myself with no spare time and surrounded by other poor students. Nonetheless, I’ve tried begging for pledges and found some generous people. I wish I could do more, but I’ll go with what I have, knowing that every dollar counts.

If you’d like to get involved, there are several ways you can help. One way is to register for the event at www.fish-a-thon.com and join us on Saturday. There is a minimum pledge amount to participate, but it’s easy enough to reach. If you’d like to have some fun fishing, have some great food, and get a chance to win some incredible draw prizes, this really is the event for you. If you can’t make it, considering donating to the cause. You can visit the website and make a donation online. Of course, I’d be more than happy if you would like to pledge me – just donate an amount online then contact me to let me know that I should add you to my pledge sheet. As well, the organizers are always looking for more donations of draw  prizes, and volunteers for the event are always welcome. You can contact them here.

I really can’t wait for Saturday to arrive. This year I’m attempting to catch the Grand Slam! I’ll let you know how it goes.

This is our fourth year at the Fish-A-Thon For A Cure. We got involved after my twins lost their good friend to Leukaemia. Now we participate every year as a way to remember, to pay tribute to our friends and family, and to raise funds to cure this horrible disease. ( it isn’t about raising the most $$, just contributing in any way you can- thank you !) I’m glad to hear that you enjoy it! Juli 🙂

Juli, you’re absolutely right about contributing in any way possible and using the event as a tribute. Someone very close to me was diagnosed with breast cancer before we participated in this event the first time. Fortunately, she was able to beat it and this is a way I can honor her fight. It’s a wonderful event, and aside from everything else, I enjoy seeing your smiling face greet us when we arrive in the morning 🙂

What do you think? We'd love to know.
