Fish ON-Line: A Great Tool For Ontario Anglers

A neat tool offered by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources is Fish ON-Line.

Fish ON-line is a tool that anglers can use to search for new fishing areas, or look up details on favorite fishing areas.

With an easy-to-use interface you can run a simple search for a water body, fish species, stocked water body, or just browse through a general area. I started by searching near my home and then branching out to water bodies near there.

Once you find a water body you want to look at in more detail, you can click on the icon to find out more information about the water depth, fisheries management zone, fish species found in the lake, and stocking information.

I found it most interesting to look at the stocking information. Before finding this tool Darrell and I had stopped at some lakes up north to have a look and take a cast. One of the residents wandered out to tell us that no fishing was allowed until January 1st. We had looked up the regulations ahead of time and noticed no restrictions. When we got home and I found this tool I was able to see that splake have been stocked here for years, and since splake are open all year, there was no reason for the lake to not be open to fishing year round.

Finding new fishing spots is always a challenge, but this tool will help you find those fishing spots and determine what you can fish for. If you fish in Ontario you need to check out Fish ON-Line.
