Evening Geocaching…Until The Bike Broke!
A beautiful summer evening and a desire to do some geocaching had us loading the bikes in the truck and hitting the trail. One of the wonderful things about geocaching is that many cache owners like to hide a series of caches along a trail. In this case, we had found many of the caches along other stretches of the trail, but I wanted to hit a new stretch and do some searching.
We decided to ride the length of the trail before looking for any caches. This proved to be a good way of reminding my muscles that bike riding is fun and not always as hard as it was on the weekend. Everything felt much better and I was able to focus on the rockier terrain that pushed my bike around, instead of focusing on various aches and pains.

This is such an amazing time of the year to be outside – almost everything is still green, but some vegetation is starting to develop brilliant hues of red, and even purple, causing me to linger a little longer. The mosquitoes were more than happy to take a bite, or ten, every time I slowed down. Looking for caches was the worst, since most are hidden in the bush, in perfect mosquito habitat. I should have read the previous logs where some geocachers suggested bug spray. Another good idea would have been wearing pants instead of shorts, thanks to the abundant raspberry along the path.
Have I mentioned before that Darrell is an ace at finding geocaches? It’s like letting our Australian shepherd loose to find Pupperoni – he never misses. All I have to do is get in the general area, and before I can think of looking for the container, Darrell’s got it in his hands. The caches along this trail are not overly difficult to find, but some are trickier than others. I enjoy these trails because it’s a great way to get in some geocaching in a short amount of time.

A look inside. I love the random objects you can trade for in a geocache. Just remember, if you take something, you have to leave something of equal or greater value. I often settle for just signing the logbook.

We found four caches before noticing that Darrell’s bike was having mechanical issues – a pedal was about to fall off. Having dealt with this before, we knew the pedal would end up falling off pretty quickly, so we cut the night short and headed for the truck before there would be too much damage. Even abbreviated, it was a great outing and a wonderful way to spend the evening.
