Gear Review: Kuma Bear Buddy Double Camp Chair

After my old camp chair finally kicked the bucket, I knew it was time to look for something a little better. A chair with a higher weight rating, because I’m not a small person, and preferably one with more space, because the dogs are forever crawling into my lap. When I saw the Kuma Bear Buddy Double Chair, I knew I had to give it a try.

I bought the chair online from Outdoors Oriented and it arrived insanely fast. When I purchased it back in November, the chair cost $199.95. With tax and shipping it came in just under $250. For us, that was a lot of money to spend on a camp chair, even with it being a double, so I could only hope that it would meet our needs.

Our first trip with the Kuma Bear Buddy chair was to Silent Lake Provincial Park. The moment I set it up and told Erza she could sit on it, that dog claimed it as hers. All weekend long, if one of us was sitting in the chair, a dog was sitting beside us, usually Erza. If us humans weren’t in the chair, there were two dogs in it. It was so comfortable, with so much room, and the cupholders even fit our large travel mugs in them.

I ordered a second chair as soon as we got home.

When we went ice fishing for a weekend on a lake near Gogama, I slept in that chair. The dogs and Darrell claimed the cots, so I took the chair. Make no mistake, it’s not long enough to stretch out in, but with my legs bent, or draped over the arm of the chair, I slept soundly both nights. You can easily fall asleep while sitting upright as well.

PROS OF THE KUMA BEAR BUDDY DOUBLE CHAIR

  • It’s rated for 500lbs.
  • Easy folding design that fits into the included carrying bag.
  • Very sturdy. It doesn’t feel like it moves around at all.
  • Cup holders on either side, as well as stem glass holders. Yes, you can put a wine glass into the holder on these chairs. We have no need for stem glasses, but they work well for sliding a reel into and holding an ice fishing rod.
  • Incredibly comfortable. The back and arm rests are padded and it feels like a luxury while camping.
  • Made from durable 600D polyester so I don’t worry about the dogs ripping the material with their nails, or getting it dirty. It’s super easy to wipe clean.

CONS OF THE KUMA BEAR BUDDY DOUBLE CHAIR

  • It’s not cheap, though I think it’s worth every penny.
  • Because of the size, it’s a bulky piece of equipment, even when folded up. Since we usually have our truck or boat while camping, we have plenty of room for it, but if you’re tight on space, this might not be for you.
  • Getting out of it takes practice. It’s like sitting in a bucket seat and we found that you need to twist yourself a little and push on parts of the frame to get up.

There’s even a heated version of this chair if that’s something you need.

So do I recommend the Kuma Bear Buddy Double Chair? Absolutely, it’s 100% worth it. This is my favourite camp chair that I’ve ever sat in, and although it feels luxurious, it’s still practical for our camping setup. You won’t be disappointed.

I can’t find any pictures or measurements of this thing all folded and packed up. How much space does it take when packed?

What do you think? We'd love to know.
