Make Your Christmas Baking Fishy
I love to bake all year round, but at Christmas I like to step it up and make tons of cookies. Sugar cookies are my favorite, and usually my most well-received recipe. The thing is, they lack that personal touch. However, thanks to some inspiration from the ladies at B’ASS Fisher Women, I’ll be making fish-shaped sugar cookies this year, which will have all those who know me shaking their heads and asking if I could possibly be any weirder.
Finding suitable fish-shaped cookie cutters was a problem until today, when I foundĀ The Cookie Cutter Shop. They have a variety of cookie cutters to meet your needs, three of which suit my needs perfectly.
What could be better than handing your friends and family a tin of appropriately decorated fish? I can’t wait to make these!

My own sugar cookie recipe is pretty simple:
- 1-3/4 cups unsalted butter, softened
- 2-2/3 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 5 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cover and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 400F.
- Roll dough on floured surface, 1/4″ to 1/2″ thick. Cut into shapes and decorate with sprinkles, sugar, or chocolate chips if desired. Place on parchment lined cookie sheets.
- Bake 6 to 8 minutes (I find 6 minutes is perfect in my oven).
There are many good icing recipes online if you wish to decorate the cookies.
Happy baking!

Yep, one can never have too many fish-shaped items in the kitchen or around the house. Put a fish on it!
My house just seems to collect fish-shaped and fishing-related items! I may have a problem…
