Fabulous Fairy Lake Fishing
While I was off chasing big fish on Sunday, Darrell took his brother, Cody, to Fairy Lake in Acton, looking for revenge on the crappie that broke him off last time we visited the lake.
After launching they headed directly for the structure along the shores that were home to countless crappie on the last trip….only to find nothing there. It wasn’t long though, before they moved out to deeper water and found the crappie suspending. It was pretty much game over after that.
By using both a white hair jig with a pink head, and a twister-tail grub, they began picking off crappie like crazy.
In the stumps on the far side of the lake seems to be a great spot for crappie at this time of the year. Like any anglers caught up in a hot bite, the guys were focused of catching fish and completely missed my phone calls when I stopped at the lake on my way home, hoping for a little crappie fishing.
The bass were also turned on. While there’s still a few weeks to go until bass opener, the jigs proved too tempting and both Darrell and Cody ended up catching quite a few. They were all released after some pictures and I can’t stress enough the importance of following the regulations, especially in a lake that receives a lot of fishing pressure.
In the two weeks since we had last been there, the surface temps had risen five degrees to 71F and the vegetation really started to grow. The fish were in a different location but were biting on the same lures.
Fairy Lake truly is a gem of a place for small town. When I stopped by on the weekend the splash pad was full of kids looking for a way to cool off, people were on the ball diamonds, families were picnicking, and, most importantly, every fishing spot was full. It was nice to see all the people out fishing with their kids.
A day on Fairy Lake is always a good day, and fishing for crappie on a hot bite is something everyone should enjoy.
