CVC’s 2013 Stewardship Forum

Last year I attended a Stewardship Forum put on by Credit Valley Conservation (CVC). After spending the day in a variety of seminars that largely focused on the importance of nature for human well-being, and a walk around the U of T Mississauga campus for invasive species identification, I was bursting with new knowledge, questions, and energy. The event was not only a great educational experience, but an excellent networking opportunity as well. It was here that I met the person who gave me the final push to return to school. She had been at the same point in her life that I was currently at – a university graduate working a job she wasn’t passionate about and looking for something more. She returned to school, went to Fleming College, and ended up doing a job she loved. The more we talked, the more I knew that I needed to take the step and return to school.

Almost a year later I’ve completed my first year at Fleming College in Ecosystem Management and am looking forward to the start of the second year. I’ve learned more in the past few months than I ever could have imagined, and enjoyed every minute of it. I also had the opportunity to thank CVC for the event that pushed my life in a new direction by becoming a Caring for the Credit Volunteer Leader, an experience that I have thoroughly enjoyed.

Now it is once again coming time for CVC’s Stewardship Forum and Volunteer Appreciation Event. This year’s event is titled With Great Lakes Come Great Responsibility and will be a tour of projects designed to protect the shoreline and the lake. The event is held on Saturday, October 5th, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., costs $10, and starts at the University of Toronto Mississauga Campus. To register for the event, or for more details, check out the website.

If you have an interest in conservation, the environment, the outdoors, or the Credit River, take advantage of this excellent learning opportunity. It’s a fantastic day with like-minded people, and you never know what will happen as a result of attending.
